Encroachment is an ongoing project about the edge of town. I live in a developing community. Every year the borders of my town push further out into the rural landscape. This project was the beginning of my interest in the suburbs as a photographic subject. When I first moved into my neighborhood, I didn’t quite know how to apporach the subject of suburbs as a place. I needed to observe it from afar.
The rural landscape is slowly being pushed and swallowed by housing developments. It’s progress. The economic downturn in 2008 slowed the pace of home construction, but progress marches on at the peripheral edges of most suburban communities.
