2 Car Garages
This series has been kicking around in my head for a while. I took a while getting around to it. I have had more time to work on personal projects, so I decided it was time to get after it. I had some technical issues to figure out and now I have a system for shooting them. I don’t want this post to be about technique.
What I would like to talk about is the purpose and my trajectory for this project. I am interested in the garage as a multipurpose, utilitarian space. By design, a garage is for storing vehicles, but most people have secondary purposes for their garage. Sometimes this secondary purpose overrides this garages primary function. I am looking to document garages in a uniform and clear manner. I am looking for variety and similarities. They will be shot in a consistent manner with consistent lighting and cropping. I have limited the project to 2 car garages because they fit the rectangular landscape orientation and they also present an interesting limitation for the owner of the garage. I am looking to expand upon my preliminary images, and ultimately I will push this project towards exhibition and/or publication.
I am currently shooting garages in the Madison, Dane County area. I am putting preference on garages in my immediate area, although I will gladly venture further from home for exceptional specimens. If you have of know of an interesting 2 car garage, please drop me a line via my contact page.
